Stacey Hayhoe looks out at the apparently blank wall rising across Talbot Street from Streamliners Espresso Bar – a wall that looms large through the windows of the busy indie coffee shop she owns with Maria Fiallos.
Stacey laughs, “I’m making the best of it!”
And she smiles that, at least, once the Food Basics store now under construction on the former Giant Tiger site opens its doors, she’ll be able to nip over on the way home.
For though Streamliners this day is testing tasty, gluten-free cornbread muffins (with real kernels of corn, don’t you know), Stacey will be in the market for good, old grocery-store hotdog buns.
Seriously? Hot dogs!?!
Stacy laughs again as she explains.
“I still have a three-year-old at home.”
The new groceteria is a curious piece of construction, turned sideways on its lot, that blank north wall built tall and right out to the sidewalk. And blocking even more of the view of the historic CASO railway station beyond than the old Giant Tiger did.
